Goose Creek is a city in Berkely County, South Carolina. The city was established in 1961, but its history dates back centuries. In the 1670s the Etiwan moved to the area to escape the Westo, seeking protection from colonists among the plantation in the area who were called the “Goose Creek men”. These plantations and colonists were mostly settled north a few miles from Charleston near a creek called Goose Creek. The Goose Creek men became early leaders of the Native American trade. Initially, the Goose Creek men dealt mainly with Native American slaves, but later the deerskin trade dominated.
